Here I go again

Looking back at my past blogging attempts—none of which lasted long or ever focused on a single topic—I cannot shake this strange sense of familiarity as I tweak a self-hosted WordPress instance. Again.

I have finally settled. No turning back. I thought Substack could become a place to stay for the foreseeable future. But for me, it is no option either. It is a shame, but I did not leave Twitter—after right-wing technocapitalist Elon Musk took over and it was overrun by fascists—only to end up on another platform allowing the same intolerable worldviews to spread.

A more thorough blog post will follow soon, outlining my reasons for quitting and the alternatives I have chosen. For now, I am glad to be set up and rolling.

In this journal—or, for Kubrick’s sake, this blog—I will share my thoughts and experiences as a documentary photographer and, in time, (hopefully) as a photojournalist. The blog is named Broadsheet—a nod to the traditional broadsheet newspapers of old, where stories were given room to breathe and to unfold in depth. This space is meant to craft a reference for others to draw from and to be a corner for personal reflection.

You might wonder if someone tampered with Doc’s flux capacitor, but no: it is still 2026, even if this WordPress theme from 2010 might make you nostalgic. I tried more current, trendy themes, but for now, I cannot shake the idea of sticking with something from an era of the internet when things were simpler and there was still that flair of venturing into the new digital world. Back then, even Google’s Year in Search 2010: Year in Review gave me goosebumps as a young adult and filled me with hope—unlike today’s versions, where fascists and far-right personalities are featured as if their presence required no explanation, no context—just another item in the annual highlight reel.

So, I’ll stick with Here I Go Again after all, and leave you with the corresponding song by Whitesnake from 1987:

I don’t know where I’m going
But I sure know where I’ve been
Hanging on the promises
In songs of yesterday

And I’ve made up my mind
I ain’t wasting no more time

Here I go again

Whitesnake
