Vive l’Internationale!

A protester waves a trade union flag during a trade union protest at William Square (Knuedler) in Luxembourg on June 28, 2026.

As every year, I spent the morning walking with family, friends, and members of our local photo association, Photo-Club Esch. We hiked through the forest, plaiting a “Meekranz” to celebrate International Labour Day—a wonderful way to unite everyone around such a significant holiday.

After lunch at a local restaurant, we gathered in the backyard for a surprising and lively get-together, filled with discussions and some spirited debates about politics.

In that spirit, I hope you also had an inspiring Labour Day. To me, it’s the most significant bank holiday of the year, alongside Easter Monday, which commemorates the Irish Republican Rising on April 24, 1916, against British rule in Ireland.

Vive l’Internationle! ✊🏽🚩

So comrades, come rally
And the last fight let us face
The Internationale unites the human race.
